The project
A Landscape and Visual Appraisal supporting the sensitive expansion of an existing biogas facility.
Influence was appointed by Condate Biogas Limited to prepare a Landscape and Visual Appraisal supporting the expansion of an existing anaerobic digestion facility at South Molton, Devon. The proposals include new workshops, CO₂ tanks and associated infrastructure, carefully integrated within the operational site on elevated land at the settlement edge.
A robust, policy-led assessment was undertaken in accordance with GLVIA guidance, combining desk-based analysis, site survey and verified viewpoints to evaluate potential effects on landscape character and visual amenity.
The design incorporates embedded mitigation, including landform bunding and native planting, to filter views and reinforce local landscape structure. The proposals were found to relate well to the existing facility, with limited visibility from surrounding receptors and no effects beyond the defined study area.
Overall, the scheme demonstrates a landscape-led approach, resulting in low to negligible effects and confirming the development as appropriate and deliverable within its rural context.
