Sandilands | Designing for wildlife: How landscape architecture accelerates nature recovery 🌿 Avocets, spoonbills, and black-tailed godwits are already returning to Sandilands and their return was designed into the landscape from day one. When designing for nature recovery on the East Coast Flyway, as landscape architects we created the precise hydrologic, topography, and soil conditions nature needed. At @ntsandilands our detailed proposals balanced two key ecological strategies: 🌱 Natural regeneration: Allowing seed banks to respond naturally to newly restored wetland hydrology 🌾 Targeted native planting: Specially formulated seed mixes sourced locally to match the harsh coastal soil conditions By reading the coastal dynamics and designing species-specific micro-habitats, landscape architects help nature rebound rapidly. #Landscapearchitecture #Naturerecovery #Biodiversitynetgain #Placemaking #Coastalecology

Sandilands | From Fairways to Flyways: Redefining land use 🌾 🐦 Transforming 120 hectares of golf course into a thriving coastal wetland nature reserve takes vision, collaboration, care and intentional design. Following the completion and public opening of the @nationaltrust’s Sandilands on the Lincolnshire coast, we’re sharing a look behind the scenes at how landscape-led design delivered this transformation. As lead consultant and landscape architect, our role was to turn a formerly private landscape into resilient, nationally important natural infrastructure. Over the next four days, we’ll break down how we designed for wildlife recovery, climate adaptation, visitor experience, and social impact across the site: Day 2: Nature recovery and habitat creation Day 3: Climate resilience and coastal adaptation Day 4: Inclusive access and experience zoning Day 5: Social value and hands-on delivery Stay tuned this week as we dive into the details. 🌿 #sandilands #naturerecovery #landscapearchitecture #coastalwetlands #climateresilience

Our Principal Landscape Architect, Kathryn Dunk, attended a really informative walking tour courtesy of ProCon Leicestershire and @leicestercitycouncil on 1 October. 🚶‍♀️ It was great to see some of the lesser-known pockets of her home city, away from the Highcross and Clock Tower, and to think about the opportunities and challenges facing Leicester city centre. A key discussion was around what type of developments should be brought forward in the city centre, and how this can work alongside other funding initiatives and income streams. There is clearly a need for more housing, but also for the facilities and amenities that create sustainable, vibrant neighbourhoods - places that work for both living and working, as well as for leisure and play. The group explored how thoughtful public realm can help knit individual sites together, creating a more cohesive and connected city centre. It was great to finish the tour at Phoenix Leicester and see the venue being so well used on a Thursday evening - a fantastic example of the role that culture and leisure can play in bringing people into the city centre. A big thank you to ProCon Leicestershire, Grant Butterworth (LCC Head of Planning), Andrew Smith (LCC Director, Planning, Transport and Economic Development), David Beale (LCC Development Manager) and their teams for an interesting and thought-provoking afternoon. Great to see some familiar faces, as well as plenty of new ones in the crowd. #leicester #leicestercitycentre #placemaking #regeneration #publicrealm

Business manager Ruth Berry spent yesterday afternoon at @doddingtonhall Hall & Gardens in Lincolnshire, attending its 'Experience Doddington' corporate venue showcase. 💼🌳 The estate team put on an informative afternoon demonstrating their corporate hospitality and away-day offerings: - Wilder Doddington: An intro to their rewilding project at the new Wild House, followed by a brief safari through the landscape. - Facilities and tours: A look at their accommodation, a newly opened meeting space, and a tour of the hall and gardens. - Networking reception: The afternoon concluded at the Grain Store cafe with local refreshments, networking, and an interesting tour of the MC Tsen Miitary Uniform Collection. It was interesting to see how they have integrated sustainability with high-end corporate facilities. #sustainability #eventplanning #landscapearchitects

He did it! 🏆🎉 Congratulations to Jake Haywood, our Apprentice Urban Design Planner, who took home the award for Degree Apprentice of the Year at the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Apprenticeship Awards last night. Jake was joined at the Crown Plaza in Nottingham by teammates Ruth Berry, Lindsey Arkley CMLI, and Keira Attridge to celebrate the occasion. It was a fantastic evening celebrating local talent, and a big well done to all the other finalists - it was exceptionally tough competition! Having joined us straight from school after completing his A-Levels, Jake has truly thrived in his role and become an invaluable part of our team which is why this recognition so well deserved. We couldn't be prouder - well done, Jake! 👏 Thanks to organiser @nationalworld1 #ApprenticeshipAwards #DegreeApprentice #UrbanDesign #TeamAppreciation #NextGenerationTalent

It was proud moment to attend the official opening of the @nationaltrust Trust visitor centre at @ntsandilands on the Lincolnshire Coast, before it opened to the public for the first time over the weekend. As lead consultant and landscape architect, seeing everyone gather on site to mark this milestone was deeply rewarding. The event was a celebration of years of collaborative effort, bringing together the team, partners, and local stakeholders who helped turn thoughtful, sustainable design into a lasting asset for wildlife and the local community. A huge thank you to: 🌿 Our client the National Trust for hosting a wonderful opening event and for their partnership throughout. 🌿 Shona Hatton, Lindsey Arkley, and Kathryn Dunk in our team for their leadership, skills, and being instrumental in the project 🌿 All supply chain partners and consultants whose hard work brought this space to life.
