Upton Hall

Landscape and arboricultural plans for a Grade II* listed building

Founded in 1958 by a small group of clockmakers, the British Horological Institute (BHI) is the representative body of the UK’s horological industry. Upton Hall is a Grade II* listed building in Nottinghamshire, and since 1972 it has been home to the BHI, its workshops and a museum. The BHI appointed Influence to provide expert advice on landscape issues related to a proposed regeneration project.

Driven by the desire to attract more visitors, the BHI are planning a contemporary museum with modernised workshops, conference facilities, a cafe with a play area, and regenerated gardens. The BHI need Heritage Lottery Funding (HLF) to finance the project and, having completed the first stage we are now working towards second stage HLF funding, when we’ll submit a planning application. In the meantime, we have completed detailed landscaping plans – from concept to planning – and an Arboricultural assessment.
