Penlanlas Wind Turbine

A successful outcome for a sensitive turbine project

Influence were asked to carry out a Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) for a single wind turbine measuring 77m from ground to tip. Commissioned by Fisher German LLP, our comprehensive assessment of the site near Llanfarian in Wales was submitted as part of the planning application in March 2013.

The Local Planning Authority (LPA) had concerns regarding the landscape and visual effects, and it was agreed that further assessment was required. Our addendum report assessed the cumulative impact of two existing turbine developments, as well as the landscape and visual impact of the Penlanlas wind turbine on its locale and adjacent Special Landscape Area (SLA). Following a committee meeting we were asked to provide a statement responding to recommendations that the application be refused.

Having encountered some local opposition, this extremely sensitive project required great care and comprehensive consultation with the LPA. However, following a successful process, Planning Consent has now been approved.
