Terrace garden completed in London

Influence have completed a private terrace garden in central London in collaboration with Howe Chartered Surveyors. The scheme brings back to life a neglected 8x6m paved area and provides a sheltered haven for the client in the middle of the city. A key requirement of the brief was to provide screening against the rear façade of a restaurant building beyond the garden. Black bamboo in timber planters creates a soft border to the garden, which moves slightly in the breeze. The light texture of the bamboo and two large olive trees is off-set with the more structured form of bay balls, cypress and standard holly, creating a layered space with planting at two levels. Star jasmine provides further scented screening close to the house. Lavender and Agapanthus provide colour, whilst three of the client’s favourite deciduous shrubs are included to provide autumn colour and spring blossom. The gentle sound of a small tiered water feature helps to mask nearby traffic noise.
