Paul goes back to school for D2N2

Influence have joined the bank of employers for Ideas4Careers, who, on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council are delivering a project called Careers Local, in line with the D2N2 Employability Framework.

Our first session was in support of careers week at local school, The Newark Academy. Paul went back to school for the afternoon as a local business ambassador.

Paul shared his workplace experiences and gave a brief outline of his job as a Senior Landscape Architect and the route he took to get there, after taking his GCSE exams.

Paul acted as a guide and mentor for a table of five students during an ‘apprentice project workshop’.  Each of the sessions four teams had to allocate themselves roles including project manager, designer, production, negotiator/ buyer and spokesperson to ‘sell their product to Mr Sugar’.

The brief was simple – make something functional and fashionable.

Paul’s team decided on ‘sleepers’ (comfortable speakers to wear whilst you sleep).  The team worked well together and delivered a very polished presentation and were just pipped to the investment by a multifunctional kilt!

Ideas4Careers will be undertaking further sessions in schools within the D2N2 area where Influence hope to be involved.
