Great Start to the New Year

On 8 January 2020, Lincolnshire County Council granted planning permission for a new Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) building, renovation works, car park enlargement and associated landscaping at Willoughby School, Bourne, Lincolnshire.

Influence have been working in conjunction with Willmott Dixon, Kier Design and Business Services and BSP Consulting to develop the proposals, landscaping and external spaces for the School responding to the existing setting along with the requirements of the school.

Working with the School throughout the Customer Engagement Meetings (CEM) has enabled vital input from the client during the design process to ensure the design proposals work for the individual needs of the School, particularly the safe arrival and exit of students and the need for the redesign of the existing car park area to provide much needed additional car parking.

The proposals have ensured the retention of existing elements, where possible, such as sensory play equipment, which have been incorporated into the new areas.  The adjacent paddock, which the school use for outdoor sciences, vegetable growing, habitat and wildlife areas has provided space for mitigation tree planting, habitat enhancement, creation of a small orchard and space to form an area of open grassland for informal sports and activities.

This delivers on Lincolnshire County Council’s commitment to an ‘All needs everywhere’ response to the provision of SEND facilities throughout the county.

Work on the School will begin this year with works carefully planned to minimise disturbance to the day to day running of the School ensuring the School can remain active during the construction period.  Works will be completed in 2021.
