Official Opening at ‘The Great Stink’

On 12th July Influence’s Shona Hatton, Ian Morton and Lindsey Arkley attended the official opening of the exhibition and restored landscape for the ‘The Great Stink’, Crossness Pumping Station – a Heritage Lottery Fund project.

In 2015 Influence were appointed as lead landscape architects for the garden restoration works. The project has seen the Victorian Terrace Garden restored and a new ‘collection area’ and memorial garden constructed. This, in conjunction with new interpretation signage and a new exhibition within the Grade I listed boiler house, completed the projects being opened on the day.

An invited audience gathered to a reception from the dedicated volunteer workforce at this magnificent ‘Cathedral on the Marsh’.  Speakers included Sir Peter Bazalgette, great-great-grandson of the ‘drain brain’ Sir Joseph Bazalgette. Sir Peter noted and applauded the magnificent garden restoration and planting and made a special mention to the hugely dedicated volunteers without whom the project would not have progressed or have become such a success.
