Affordable housing in Prinstead Gardens
Great to see one of our projects underway. In this instance, a collection of affordable housing for Hyde Homes in Southbourne Near Chichester, West Sussex.
Influence was appointed to develop the technical landscape design for the shared surface / courtyard development and support to achieving the Code for Sustainable Homes Assessment aspirations.
A key challenge to the success of the landscape design has been the balance between delivering the functional requirements associated with vehicle and pedestrian access and underground services, whilst maximising the site’s potential for biodiversity and planting – both of which had to be compliant with the client’s robust technical design brief.
Working closely with HGP Architects and Rushby Brewster Engineers, Influence developed the external levels, surface material selection and bespoke tree pit design to provide a multifunctional design to the courtyard. 
Allowing natural drainage to the tree pits and planting beds without the need for traditional drainage has helped create a sustainable drainage solution that will safeguard the future establishment of the planting.
The planting palette has been carefully selected to provide amenity and seasonal interest to residents as well food and nectar for birds and insects – a cheerful place for all to live!!
