A new and widely acclaimed community centre

We recently oversaw the completion of the Lowford Centre, a new community centre and GP surgery in Bursledon, Hampshire. Funded by Eastleigh Borough Council and opened in Spring 2014, the development replaced the previous facilities with a contemporary community centre, library and GP surgery.

Influence developed the public realm design from concept to completion, working with the local authority’s internal project manager, design team and local stakeholders. To the rear of the building, a series of private gardens complement the community facilities while a ‘medicinal’ garden is visible from the GP surgery. Our landscape design achieved sustainability targets linked to the BREEAM Very Good rating, including native planting, ecological enhancements and the specification of A-rated materials.

The Lowford Centre has received plaudits and huge support from the community; the opening event attracted well over a thousand local residents. Eastleigh Borough Council is delighted with the outcome, expressing a desire to use the project as a guide for future community centre developments.
