A Care Home facility within the Green Belt
Influence’s healthcare portfolio continues to grow, as London Borough of Sutton give the go-ahead for an acute nursing and dementia care unit, located on the Old Benhill School site near Carshalton.
We were appointed to provide an arboricultural and landscape architectural strategy that seeks to retain and enhance the Care Home’s surrounding landscape character, by creating a series of garden spaces for residents and nursing staff to explore, use and enjoy. The proposals embrace borrowed landscape principles by maintaining attractive skyline views across the Surrey Downs.
A fundamental part of the landscape design is the concept of ‘Green Prescription’; creating a series of opportunities for residents, nursing staff and visitors to connect with the landscape and nature. A range of sensory landscapes will stimulate the senses, provide all year round interest and establish a safe and secure environment for future residents to live. This landscape approach will instill a sense of well-being for residents and has been proven to reduce the amount of traditional medication prescribed.
